Why is it that so many of us just don’t feel quite right even when our health becomes good, and things are going as well as they could be expected to?

I asked this question many years ago and the search for the answers led me to some unexpected places.

To cut a long story short, since humans left the way of life that is biologically suited to our species, we have physically changed in the way our bodies, brains and neural systems are constructed. We are no longer built to the optimal design that is ultimately possible from our DNA.

One of the changes includes the reduction of pineal gland activity. This means we have a deficiency of melatonin and also of some very special chemicals – monoamine oxidase inhibitors (also known as MAOI’s) which are responsible for keeping brain chemicals at optimal levels.

Correcting these deficiencies is a key step you can take to improve the quality of your life. It helps the neural system to orchestrate healing and helps you to get into the mental states you would like to be in.

The first step is to move towards a modem day equivalent of the natural human biological diet.Primatologist Katherine Milton found that our nearest evolutionary primate cousins in the wild consume about 50 times more micronutrients than a human in modern civilisation. To build our neural systems to their optimal state we need ample undamaged (uncooked and unprocessed) fatty acids, amino acids and fruit compounds. The ideal way to obtain these is from raw fruit, soaked seeds, cold-pressed oils and salads plus smaller quantities of various other foods to complete our nutritional needs.

Even with a nutrient-rich living diet, it’s a good idea to boost the missing pineal chemicals.

I recommend the use of an infra-red lamp for about 20 minutes in the evening to naturally stimulate melatonin production. The ideal wavelengths are 700 to 1000 nm. Depending on your budget you can choose a high-powered model or, alternatively, you can get a simple version online for less than £30.

The simplest way to boost MAOI’s is to drink passionflower tea. This can be part of an energy drink or elixir with coconut oil, and healthy sweetener, exotic ingredients such as cacao and maca plus other health-enhancing herbs such as Brahmi.
