Hemp and CBD have had a lot of hype around them in recent years so it’s good to get clearer about what they are about. Today I’m focussing on cannabinoids, those amazing compounds, discovered in the cannabis/hemp plant but which are actually endogenous to the human body. Hence the incredible relationship between humans and the plant kingdom. CBD is becoming well-known for helping with very specific conditions. What is not so well known is the general beneficial effects as a regular supplement.
CBD has become well known in recent times for its remarkable healing properties. Cannabinoids are very similar to a group of chemicals in the human body which regulate the way the body runs and remains healthy. For historical reasons these endogenous (originating within) compounds have been named endocannabinoids. The reason is that they were studied in the cannabis plant before they were identified in the human body. Cannabinoids from the hemp plant latch onto the same receptors sites as the endocannabinoids produced in the human body, so create a similar effect and help regulate the bodily systems in a very beneficial way.
Why do we need cannabinoids?
Over millennia humans have moved away from their natural lifestyle and diet and connection with the healing power of the Earth, As a result, we have developed deficiencies and glitches in the way our bodies work which have been passed on epigenetically through the generations. Healing plants contain compounds that can help this situation, none more so than hemp with its ability to reactivate the human endocannabinoid system.
We need to distinguish the native hemp plant from the highly hybridised cannabis plants that contain an unbalanced amount of THC and can unbalance people. CBD has antipsychotic properties and can help to redress this balance.
