I love hawthorn leaves at this time of year. They’re soft and easy to pick. Because they’re high up they’re away from anything a dog may have done.
They were once known as “ poor man’s bread and cheese”.
As tree roots go deep they draw up abundant minerals. Hawthorn is known for being good for the heart. Hawthorn leaves contain flavonoids tannins, essential oils, fruit acids and polysaccharides. vitamins B and C.
I eat them straight off the trees, add them to a salad or blend into a green soup. They’re really quite tasty.
