Description

What actually is it? Shilajit is a dark brown compound that seeps out from between rocks in the mountains of northern India and other parts of Asia during the summer. There are different theories as to what Shilajit is made of. One story goes that it is composed of humus and organic plant materials that have been compressed by layers of rock over millions of years from the time when the land where the Himalayas are now was a lush fertile garden valley. Another theory states that Shilajit is the residue of plants, high in resin and latex, which had been degraded by bacteria or fungus. Yet another theory states it is the end result of rocks and soil broken down by mosses and liverworts.

For sure it is a tar like substance that oozes out of rocks that have previously cracked due to the expansion and contraction of extreme weather conditions in the mountainous regions of Tibet, Nepal, China, Russia, Bhutan and Kashmir.  This packet contains shilajit which has been powdered for ease of use.

We highly recommend adding it into your smoothies, dressings, herbal tea’s or even just chugging it straight with spring water. We only need small amounts.

The photographs show the tar and also a delicious smoothie made with shilajit.
